The Lau Gar Kung Fu syllabus is split across 8 gradings from White sash (1st Kup) through to Black Sash (8th Kup). The black sash is then further divided in to 6 sections (degrees). Sifu John Russell is the only 7th Degree Black Sash in the Lau Gar system. Please click on the links below to view the requirements for each grading.

In October 2000 a special grade known as "Guardian of Lau Gar" was created by Master Yau. This grade is awarded to those who have been in training a minimum of 20 years and have attained the grade of 4th Degree Black sash.
